Reminder - Water Shut Off - Wilmot Watermain Replacement

February 20, 2024

Reminder that the water will be shut off on Tuesday and Thursday, Feb 20 and 22, from 8 am to 4 pm in order to connect the new water main on Wilmot.

Areas affected are:

- Wilmot Rd - Stephanies Walk to Cow Bay Rd

- Pritchard Rd - Stephanies Walk to Cow Bay Rd

- Fenwick Rd

Traffic control measures will be in place.  

Once the water is turned back on, run the cold water tap closest to where the water enters yours home until the water runs clear.

Water Shut Off - Wilmot Rd watermain replacement project

Water will be shut off to properties along Fenwick Rd, Pritchard Rd [Stephanies Walk to Cow Bay Rd], and Wilmot Rd [Stephanies Walk to Cowichan Bay Rd] from 5 am to 7 am, Friday, February 16, 2024.  This includes the multi family housing units [the Landing and, Cowichan Arms].  Mariner Ridge will not be affected as that water comes from Pavenham Rd.

The water shut off is to test the system prior to the final connection work for the new Wilmot Rd watermain replacement project, proposed to occur Tuesday, Feb 20 [the same area will also have a water shut off on Tuesday the 20th between 7 am and 6 pm].

Construction Update - Wessex Rd and Wilmot Rd

January 29, 2024

1.  February 14 Update - the final construction work is tenatively planned for Tues, Feb 20 and Thur, Feb 22.  Stand by for speciifc details regarding time [expect morning] and the areas affected where water service will be impacted for a short time.    

Wessex Rd - final connection will occur Tuesday, Jan 30 / final cleanup Jan 31

• construction starts at 8am
• water to be shut off at 9 am
• water to be back on by 5 pm
• after, run the cold water tap closest to where the main water line enters the house until it is clear
• goal met - construction completed before the herons arrive. 

2.  Wilmot Rd - construction and traffic disruption to continue over the next three weeks while this watermain is upgraded to accommodate the growth that has occurred in that area

• identified as a fire flow improvement project in the Master Plan

This will conclude the three major fire flow capital improvement projects identified in the master plan.  The next phase of upgrades will focus on water quality and water quantity.  The treatment plant at Pavenham is in the final design stage with the development permit application next.  Consultation is underway for a new well in the Valleyview area.  Design plans for the Village watermain upgrade are well underway, with grant opportunities being investigated, and work planned in collaboration with North Cowichan and the new sewer line.

Fire Hydrant Maintenance / Flow Testing - Oct 10-Nov 30

October 10, 2023

The annual fire hydrant maintenance and flow testing will occur over the next several weeks.  Watch for crews and vehicles around the neighbourhood.  Water quality and water pressure should not be affected.  If the water is cloudy, run your cold water tap [the one closest to where the water enters the house] until the water runs clear.
